AIRE - Infrastructure requirements in the context of energy system transformation

Scenario-based analysis of infrastructure requirements in the context of energy system transformation and effects on their financing and planning

  • Goals of the subproject/subproject

- Derivation of cost-optimal energy infrastructure scenarios at regional level depending on the infrastructure requirements for the scenario worlds until 2050

- Development of institutional procedures and mechanisms for capacity decisions in the infrastructure field

- Identification of needs for action and reform options with regard to the financing of energy infrastructures

  • Research focus of the Department of Energy and Resource Management is the investigation of the gas infrastructure: 

- Determination of gas infrastructure requirements using various analysis methods, including model network analysis at distribution network level for type regions

- Derivation of regional cost potential curves
for the supply of gas

- Convergence and integration of infrastructures with
Interactions, in particular in heat supply and determination of the cost-optimal energy supply

MathEnergy - Mathematical Key-Technologies for Energy Grids in Transition

  •  Project Goals

– The improvement of models and methods for scenario-based analysis of energy supply development.

Facilitation of quantitative high temporal and regional resolution-investigations of technical potentials and limits in power and heat supply.

– Observation of actual and future grid infrastructures in Germany and Europe.

– Network modeling and scenario analysis, data contents and interfaces in an application and problem-resolving orientated form, aiming for an overall integration and use in demonstrators.
